The turning points that I have experienced in writing were all like a light bulb went off in my head. The one that I remember the most was my first time using quotes when I was a freshmen in high school. I had never used quotations before and the first time I tried to use them I really screwed up. When i sat down with my teacher one on one she showed me how to use quotations properly and I remember feeling foolish for my mistakes.

  1. Jacob, though it isn't necessary, I do want you to know you can use the blog for additional responses, such as this one.

I'm glad those experiences were firing off. This quoting experience makes a lot of sense to me. What it makes me think of is how easily we can lose our voices in writing texts. While I don't know that I agree with Hjortshoj, I like his point that we may idealize authors' words because of our own inexperience with moving beyond our first drafts.
